Levaquin (levofloxacin) is efficient in the treatment of pneumonia, bronchitis, infections of the sinus, skin, urinary tract and other conditions as recommended by your health care provider. This drug works by slowing down the growth of bacteria allowing your body to battle the disease more effectively. In some cases this drug can be prescribed to treat endocarditic, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as to prevent and treat plague and traveler’s diarrhea. Levaquin is not supposed to be combined with diuretics, blood thinners, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, certain antidepressants, diabetes medications and fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
If you have been prescribed antacids that contain magnesium hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide, or any other mineral supplements containing zinc or iron, they are supposed to be taken 2 hours before you have to take your dosage of Levaquin. In some cases this medicine can cause dizziness, tiredness, lightheadedness and confusion. You are not supposed to operate machinery or take part in any activities that require you to be alert and concentrated unless you know what effects this medicine has on you.
